False Hope Destroys Any Chance Of Happiness

by Dr. Randy Cale

Okay, I want to begin with a warning.  This is the second in a series of articles on optimism and happiness, and how we can achieve our goals and really live our dreams.
However, this article will not appear to be about optimism initially.  Keep reading please, as it is critical to get that this concept […]

Communication with Teachers

by Pamela

I recently had an experience with my sons teacher that ended up disconnecting parent teacher communication. At my request and the teachers agreement we kept in contact and I was regularly informed of my sons concerning behavior at school. This was the way it was until the teacher took a suggestion of how to avoid a problem very personally. […]

ADHD and Non Verbal Learning Disability

by Kmom

I’m writing in hopes that someone will comment on children with Non Verbal Learning Disabilities.  My daughter has been diagnosed as ADHD and NLD.  I’ve read the information on NLD, but am curious as to how others are handling this particular challenge, especially in regards to school work.

Cyber-bullying and Teens

by Dr. Randy Cale

I just wrote an article for a local publication, and thought you might be interested. It’s about the disturbing trend toward cyber-bullying. It’s especially prevalent with the 12-15 year old teenage girls.
Teens More Frequently Bullied Online
When socializing on the Internet, many teens are exposed to “cyber-bullies.” Cyber bullying occurs when highly negative or abusive […]

Finding balance in family life

by Dr. Randy Cale

In a recent email to subcribers, I began a new series of articles with the metaphor that follows.  Because so many people asked questions, I will ask that you first read the story below.  Questions, and my thoughts will follow…

by AllForBoys

Since September, my next door neighbor has been watching my 2 sons (8 & 9 yrs) after school.   My neighbor is deaf, she easily reads lips and can speak - somewhat.  She also has a 3 year old daughter.    A few weeks ago she sent the following e-mail to me at work: (condensed version)
I didn’t sleep well […]

Power of Positive Emotion

by Dr. Randy Cale

I receive quite a few questions from worried parents asking how to best help their children to be happy. It is clear that they want what we all want for our children…happiness.

Unfortunately, happiness isn’t something we can give our children, any more than we can give them victory or success; they have to attain those things on their own. But what we can do is notice, celebrate and build on moments of joy as they occur and so plant the seeds of optimism, joy, emotional health and resiliency.

Afraid To Fly

by Mama Bear NYC

I’m posting with regards to the family that was thrown off of the airplane due to their three year olds’ tantrum. The posts I’ve read regarding this incident (and believe me, there are THOUSANDS) are really disturbing. The majority believe that the airline acted appropriately, which in it of itself may be fine, but the […]

Homework - How Much Is Appropriate?

by Mrs Mom

I recently had a conversation with another woman in my town about homework assignments, and it got me wondering…
She thinks our kids get too much homework, and I don’t share her opinion.  My daughter is in 2nd grade and has a brief assignment every night, Monday through Thursday.  It takes her about 15 to 20 […]
